Loving the Land

A cracked depleted surface is what you get when you use lots of chemicals. The earth's surface is not meant to lay bare to the elements and stripped of its vegetation. This is why good farmers will plant cover crops. No vegetation means lots of run off and potential problems with flooding. Regenerative minded farmers know this. We moved here in January with snow still on the ground. This cracked surface ground was revealed after the snow melted off. New to this property, we bought some compost from a local man named George.

We usually like to make our own compost from yard waste, animal waste and kitchen scraps but we will have to start fresh here as we get set up. Last weekend we planted 7 fruit trees and 12 Hazelnut trees and seeded some vegetables in our garden bed. Adding life back to this land is our purpose here.
